Ribbon Cutting at the Space at Westbury

On Tuesday, September 17th, the village celebrated the historic ribbon cutting of the new performing arts theater on Post Avenue, The Space at Westbury.

Owner Cyrus Hakakian, Mayor Peter Cavallaro and County Executive Ed Mangano cut the ribbon to officially open the venue, which will host its first music concert on October 4th.

Joining them were 250 invited guests and dignitaries including members of the Village Board and Commissions (Trustees Boes, Wise, Corte and Jefferson, and Planning Board Chairwoman Cathy Moramarco and Zoning Board Chairwoman Ann Sweat); Village staff; members of the greater Westbury Council for the Arts; former Mayor Ernest Strada; State Senator Jack Martins; County Legislators Rich Nicolello and Robert Troiano; Town Councilwoman Viviana Russell; NYS Assemblymen Mike Montesano and Chuck Lavine; and Vision Long Island Executive Director Eric Alexander.

All of the speakers noted that this historic building was transformed from a dilapidated shell of a former movie theater into one of the most spectacular, intimate performing arts venues on Long Island to see a concert or other live performance. Mayor Cavallaro noted that “the importance of this development to the future health of our downtown can not be overstated.” He noted that the redevelopment ofThe Space is one of the capstone projects in the Village’s ongoing downtown revitalization program
